With the release of its new Majorana 2 chip, Microsoft claims agentic AI has dramatically accelerated its timeline to scale a commercial-grade quantum computer.

Microsoft Corp. has announced an updated chip for quantum computing called Majorana 2 that’s said to be 1,000-times more reliable in terms of qubit stability. According to the company, it opens the door to a much faster path towards building commercially viable quantum computers.

The brains behind Microsoft’s bid to build a quantum computer within three years is also helping BHP dig more copper out of the ground to wire everything from electric cars to data centres.

Microsoft has partnered with Nvidia to power next-generation AI across Windows devices, launched seven AI models, an autonomous "Scout" personal agent and a major breakthrough in quantum computing.
