A humanoid robot built by Chinese firm Unitree Robotics has reportedly reached a peak running speed of 10 meters per second, roughly 22.4 miles per hour, during controlled testing. If accurate, that puts a two-legged machine within arm’s reach of the average speed Usain Bolt maintained during his world-record 100-meter dash.

According to a report by Interesting Engineering, some components, including the robot's head, were removed during the high-speed test to reduce weight and improve performance.

Fauna's first product, called Sprout, is a $50,000 bipedal robot that's 3 feet, 6 inches tall and designed to be "approachable and human-friendly."
