The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Thursday that Auston Matthews had surgery in New York City to repair a Grade 3 tear of his MCL and that his recovery time has been set for approximately 12 weeks.

Auston Matthews has two seasons remaining on his contract, but a difficult conversation and tough decisions are looming.

He was expected to need about 12 weeks of recovery time, the Maple Leafs said in a post on social media.
