It’s alewife migration time in Maine! Each spring, thousands of alewives swim in from the Atlantic Ocean, up the Presumpscot River and into Mill Brook Preserve on their way to Highland Lake to spawn! Since the removal of the Smelt Hill Dam in 2002, this journey is once again possible—and their numbers keep growing each year!
