Knotting series 4: Rolling hitch. The purpose of the rolling hitch is to attach a smaller rope to another larger rope or an object under load. It was commonly applied in rigging adjustments as it could be tied even if the line was under tension making it useful for controlling or adjusting tension in ropes. As I build more model ships, I’ve become increasingly fascinated by the art, history, and technique of traditional sailing knots. Rigging is such an important part of every ship model, and I’
