Murawari man Jimmie Barker (1900–1972) was the first known First Nations Australian to preserve and document Aboriginal culture usingrecorded sound. A pioneer, he produced over 100 hours of audio recordings across 21 collections. In the late 1960s, Barker was supported by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies (now AIATSIS) for a recording project.
