I have space in the winter to grow seedlings, in trials of different composts, trays, and boxes. These are not going in the ground outside, even though they are ready to in terms of size. Because as you can see here, they can grow very nicely in a midwinter greenhouse, but then what do you do at a time of year when it’s still very dark, often windy and cool? Garden compost made last autumn and turned into this bay in January has been nicely colonized by worms, Eisenia fetida small red worms which eat organic matter, and this is their excretions. It would be amazing to use as a mulch on beds, and in that case, I would not sieve it.
