How to Do a H2L Cable Chop

Most of the anti-rotation core stability exercises out there take place in a more static environment: half-kneeling or tall-kneeling. These set-ups are awesome for teaching appropriate core positioning against destabilizing forces into extension, rotation, or lateral flexion. However, their functional carryover is limited if we aren’t finding ways to transition that movement awareness into exercises in the standing position. Enter the standing low-to-high cable lift. 👇 Important coaching points

Go unilateral to progress anterior core stability drills into rotary stability challenges. 👇 When we categorize our core stability drills, we’ll break them down into the following designations: a. anterior core (resisting extension of the lower back): rollouts, fallouts, etc. b. rotary core (resisting rotation of the lower back): chops, lifts, etc. c. lateral core (resisting lateral flexion – or side bending – of the lower back): 1-arm farmer’s walks, side bridges With both rotary and lateral c

Here’s @sillyruedy putting on a 1-arm corner row clinic at Cressey Sports Performance - Florida. This is a great drill for building upper back strength while challenging anti-rotation core stability. Kody is a free agent outfielder (and single, ladies), so feel free to DM him with baseball job offers (and marriage proposals). | Eric Cressey

Looking for a quick and easy way to progress anterior core stability exercises like rollouts and fallouts? Try adding a pause and full exhale at the “lengthened” position. Thanks to Logan Morrison for the stellar demo. | Eric Cressey

There's a lot to love with the 1-arm Landmine Low-to-High Rotational Press: scapular upward rotation, rotary core stability, lower-to-upper body force transfer, hip loading/unloading, and even some power development. Give it a shot. | Eric Cressey

I’m a big fan of finding ways to get the lower body and core more integrated in upper body work with our baseball players. Rotational rows on the cable are great, but the @versapulley takes eccentric overload to the next level. As #Pirates pitcher @jamesmarvel12 will attest, this variation really forces you to work into your front hip. #cspfamily #versapulley | Eric Cressey

Whenever possible, get core control integrated in your arm care drills. 👇 I often come across arm care protocols that literally have athletes laying on a table for 30 minutes worth of “exercise.” This not only leads to a disengaged athlete, but also overlooks the fact that the entire kinetic chain needs to be synced up to keep a shoulder healthy. We’ll often use predominantly table-based exercises in month 1 to make sure athletes are picking up the technique in a controlled environment, but in
