Alligator snapping turtles get their name from their powerful jaws and the ridges of their shells that resemble alligator skin. Medusa, our resident alligator snapping turtle, enjoys spending most of her time in the water, buried in the mud. This special adaptation means that these turtles don't have to move and can remain sedentary luring their prey to them.
