Col. Carlyle Harris was a prisoner of war for 2,871 days during the Vietnam War. He is credited with introducing 'tap code' to his fellow POWs, a secret form of communication first used by allied POWs in WWII. When a fellow prisoner would return from being tortured, Col. Harris and his men would tap the message "GBU" to them, which stood for "God Bless you."
