Rebekah Johnston on Instagram: "This is my first experiment with rust dyeing. These marks were made using a few rusty washers left in a jar of water and vinegar on my windowsill for a week. I didn’t have many rusty objects (and I was a bit impatient!) but I really wanted to give it a go. I added some loose tea for texture, and the tannins reacted with the iron to create soft grey tones. The outlines came out beautifully crisp, and though the colour dried more subtly, I love the result. Next time

Lesley Iverson on Instagram: "Rust dyeing is another SO FUN thing to do. The solution you use is key. I will give you a warning to NOT use hydrogen peroxide and vinegar together! I did and it’s toxic. My eye swelled up and it caused coughing. As usual, I jump into things sometimes without thinking……. It’s not worth it….. well maybe it is a little bit😂😬🫣.
