51 years ago TODAY, Labelle taught America what “voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?” actually meant when they released “Lady Marmalade” in 1974! Tucked onto the “Nightbirds” era but powered by Allen Toussaint, the Meters, and Patti LaBelle just belting for her life, it still climbed to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1975 and later got enshrined in the Grammy Hall of Fame. Then the 2001 “Moulin Rouge!” version gave it a second life, but nothing beats the original divas. #nostalg
